Through God's blessing, all of our travels went safely and smoothly. Both of our domestic flights even arrived 20 minutes early and the arduous 18-hour overseas flight from Washington D.C. to Johannesburg wasn't quite as arduous this time around (I guess we're getting better at finding ways to become semi-comfortable cramped up tightly in a ball).
The Scheepers family (Lucas, Leona and their 3 children Lewellyn, Lieszl, and Lilande plus the girls' boyfriends Hendri and Michael and the Scheepers' little dog Fudge) all greeted us warmly with a nice reception back at their house after we touched down in South Africa. Church members Trudy and Brogan Clark also came over and it was great to see everyone again.
Megan and I are acclimating well and are all settled into the rental space that will be our home for the next few months. The weather is warm here and the breeze coming through the windows really makes it feel tropical. All sorts of birds outside serenade us awake in the morning (not quite as enjoyable the first morning when we were still jetlagged). The only problematic area we've run into is an expected one. South Africa's Internet is notoriously poor: weak signals that drop in and out, plus caps on broadband usage, so I have to learn to conserve wherever possible and start items downloading and leave the room to come back to them later.
We'll have a busy day tomorrow with church activities and meeting everyone at our new home church in Kempton Park. They're having a large children's choir performance and luncheon afterward (the hymn singing here in Africa is extraordinary, so that will be a real treat). Megan and I will have our first missionary worker's meeting Monday morning from 9-11 am with the Scheepers to discuss upcoming projects.
